Tyrolean Gun

The tyrolean gun (also called a roughcast gun or pebbledash machine) is a hand-operated sprayer for applying textured render finishes to external walls. It produces the traditional tyrolean, pebbledash, and roughcast finishes commonly seen on UK homes — a durable, weather-resistant coating that protects brickwork and blockwork while giving a decorative appearance. Loaded with a sand and cement mix (or proprietary tyrolean material), the hand crank flicks the mixture onto the wall surface in a consistent pattern. An adjustable flap controls the texture from fine spatter to heavy roughcast. No power source required — it's entirely manual, making it suitable for any location without needing cables or generators. Ideal for restoring aging rendered surfaces, matching existing tyrolean finishes on extensions, coating blockwork walls, and creating textured effects over existing smooth render. Lightweight and easy to handle — load, crank, and apply. Tip: Practice your technique on a piece of board before starting on the actual wall. Consistent cranking speed and distance from the wall are the keys to an even finish. Clean thoroughly after each use — dried cement is very difficult to remove from the flicker mechanism.
